Limited production will resume in Japan on Honda vehicles beginning in April. How many cars will be produced depends on part availability which has been interrupted since the earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan earlier this month.
Honda says that two assembly plants will restart April 11, but they will only reach half of pre-quake production capacity. However, all of the automaker’s plants will be running once again on that date.
“However, as the parts supply situation remains fluid, production of component parts and vehicles at Honda plants will resume at approximately 50 percent at the outset,” Honda said in a statement today.
Other automakers are also slowing restarting plants that were damaged in the wake of the disaster. Mazda, for example, will start producing cars at itsHiroshima and Hofu plants Monday, but will also stop short of full-scale production.
