Updated 2012 Honda Civic Gets 41 MPG

The production version of the 2012 Honda Civic has been unveiled, looking very similar to the Civic concepts that were on display at the Detroit Auto Show. Now in its ninth-generation, the new Civic promises to be even more fuel efficient than before, while retaining the unique style and reliability that car buyers have come to expect from the Civic.  For 2012, the Civic will get a new base model called the HF. The Civic HF will be the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup. It will feature a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine and should earn a competitive 41 miles per gallon on the freeway.

The Civic Hybrid will also continue to be offered for those seeking high-mileage. But for 2012, the Hybrid will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine. Despite its larger engine, it’s still expected to get a combined 45 mpg.

Honda Debuts Sleek and Sophisticated Concepts for All-New 2012 Civic Si Coupe and Civic Sedan Models

The Honda Civic Si Concept coupe and Civic Concept sedan are making world debuts at the North American International Auto Show today, providing the first official glimpse at the styling direction of the all-new, ninth-generation 2012 model set to go on sale this spring, the company announced.
"The Civic is known for providing a balance of 'just-right' packaging, fun-to-drive character and outstanding fuel economy, at a price that even first-time buyers can afford," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The redesigned Civic builds on this legacy and promises to be the best Civic yet."

The 2012 Civic embraces the company's vision as a "Civic for all people," a phrase originally expressed in defining the goal of the first-generation Civic. With the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Civic lineup intends to meet the needs of an increasing group of compact-vehicle buyers with a renewed vision of a "Civic for all people." The diverse vehicle range includes a sedan and a coupe with conventional gasoline models, two sporty "Si" performance versions, along with one hybrid and a natural gas alternative-fuel variant. Collectively the depth of the Civic line offers a compelling balance between fuel economy, low emissions and fun-to-drive performance unlike any other vehicle in the industry.

2012 Honda Civic Boasts More Miles Per Gallon

Honda promises that the all-new 2012 Civic will be much better than the current model. While they may look similar, the 2012 model share very little in common with the existing Civic.
The Honda Civic is perhaps best known for offering competitive fuel economy. And, that tradition will undoubtedly continue as Honda is introducing two new high-mileage Civics. The first is the Civic HF, which is the most fuel-efficient gasoline-only powered Civic in the lineup. Powering the HF is a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine which should help it achieve 41 miles per gallon on the highway.

Strong fuel economy is also assured with the Civic Hybrid. For 2012, the Civic Hybrid will be outfitted for the first time with a lithium-ion battery and a larger 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine. Honda estimates that the Hybrid model will get even better fuel economy than its predecessor, with an EPA-estimated city/highway combined fuel economy of 45 mpg.

“The Civic is the only model in the industry that can deliver on all fronts – fuel economy, sporty performance, smart packaging, alternative fuel and long-term value,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co.,Inc. “For the ninth-generation Civic, we are emphasizing improved fuel economy across the board, from the hybrid sedan to the sporty Si model.”

5 Dumb Things That Can Void Your Car Warranty

Nobody in their right mind would want to void their car warranty. Yet, there are thousands (perhaps millions) who worry that one small thing will crumple their precious warranty up and throw it into the waste basket. A portion of those people have written to me lamenting the fact that they did something that voided it. So what are the most common actions that result in a voided car warranty?

What Is A Car Warranty?

First of all, in order to understand your part in the warranty relationship, it is vital that you understand what a warranty is and what it is not. A new car warranty is an agreement between the carmaker and the consumer. It outlines what you must do to keep your warranty in force, and a warranty can be voided in part or whole. For instance, if you don't have the oil changed in the engine according to the suggested maintenance schedule and the engine fails as a result, the carmaker has the legal right to void the warranty on the engine. The rest of the warranty remains intact, providing nothing else was affected by such negligence.

There are also warranty issues related to the installation of aftermarket products and/or services on a vehicle that is still under a new car warranty. Often people install aftermarket products for adding customizing features or they use certain services for vehicle maintenance.

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act addresses such issues. This law states that if a customer installs an aftermarket product (it could be a fluid, filter, hard part, software...virtually anything that was not installed on or in the vehicle from the factory when it was new) and if the vehicle fails as a result of the installation or use of the aftermarket product/service, the carmaker cannot arbitrarily deny a warranty claim and/or void the new car warranty because of the installation or use of the aftermarket product, but must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the failure was indeed caused by the installation or use of the aftermarket product. The reason this law was put into place is because carmakers were arbitrarily voiding car warranties and refusing warranty service because the customer had installed an aftermarket products/services. Since there was no required burden of proof on the carmaker, consumers were hung out to dry. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act forced the carmaker to prove that the failure was due to the aftermarket product. The law still stands today within the U.S.

All-New Honda CR-V Arrives Next Fall

With the new Honda Civic heading to showrooms soon, the next vehicle to get an update is likely to be the CR-V. The CR-V continues to be a strong seller and Honda is eager to retain momentum with an all-new model.  The all-new 2012 CR-V will reportedly make its debut by fall of this year. It will be a complete generational model change, but few other details are known at this point.

Honda has had strong growth in the light truck segment, with sales fueled by the popular CR-V and the all-new Odyssey minivan. With such skimpy updates given to the CR-V for the 2010 and 2011 model years, it makes sense that a completely new model is waiting in the wings.

Odyssey named to Automobile Magazine's 2011 All-star Team

For the editors of AUTOMOBILE Magazine, the situation is clear: “The minivan is as close as you can get to the perfect family vehicle, and the Honda Odyssey is as close as you can get to the perfect minivan.” So it comes as no surprise that the dynamic new Honda was recently named to the publication’s annual list of All-Stars, representing the eighth time the Odyssey has received this prestigious honor.
Now, it’s not often that a fresh-faced rookie like the all-new Odyssey gets named to an all-star list—of any kind—but then again, it’s not often that a vehicle like the Odyssey hits the market. As detailed by the team at AUTOMOBILE Magazine, this high-quality Honda delivers:
  • Expressive design and “the sleeker proportions of a crossover”
  • A highly configurable interior that provide room for up to eight adults and/or plenty of cargo
  • A driving experience that is “not only pleasant but rewarding”
  • Comprehensive in-vehicle entertainment options, ranging from a 16.2-inch monitor for rear-seat passengers to a mini refrigerator
  • Numerous safety features, including a multiview rear camera, a blind-spot warning system and side-curtain airbags for all three rows
