Limited production will resume in Japan on Honda vehicles beginning in April. How many cars will be produced depends on part availability which has been interrupted since the earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan earlier this month. Honda says that two assembly plants will restart April 11, but they will only reach half of pre-quake production capacity. Honda has created a new website to allow customers, suppliers and others to support the Japan disaster recovery effort through the Red Cross. The site was initially established to cater to Honda and Acura dealers, but the site has since been opened to the public. The new website comes after Honda donated $3.7 million toward the relief and recovery effort, along with 1,000 Honda generators. Honda’s CR-Z is a unique offering that combines the fuel-efficiency of a hybrid with the performance of a sports car. That balance has still left some wanting more — particularly enthusiasts. According to Autocar, Honda has confirmed that a faster version of the CR-Z hybrid is in development. It will continue to be a hybrid, but it will likely receive a quicker version of Honda’s next-generation IMA hybrid system. Following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Honda shut down several of its plants to make power and infrastructure checks. Honda vehicles are known for their reliability, and that reputation remains untarnished in the latest testing by Consumer Reports.
